“Average” American vs. “Average” Politican
Here are a few helpful facts about the “average” American from the Federal Reserve.
Median family income is $70,300.
Median family net worth is $192,900.
66.1% of American families owned a home.
42% of families held a debt tied to their home — like a mortgage or home equity loan.
22% of families had student debt with a median value of around $25,000.
Two-thirds of working-age families participated in retirement plans.

Since 2009, all have had a salary of $174,000 - (a few leadership positions get paid even more money).
Median net worth is $1.53 million for senators & $454,000 for representatives.
2% of senators & 13% of representatives had student loan debt.
All members of Congress who serve at least five years are eligible for annual pensions . These pensions kick in starting at 62 years of age and are roughly an average of $45,000 per year - on top of any Social Security, private retirement accounts or other federal employee retirement plan benefit plans.
